2020 WeHelp Day of Giving Drive:
Saturday, December 5th
Grace United Methodist Church Drive Way
( Auburn, 915 E. Glenn Ave, next to Kroger)
Despite the pandemic that has plagued our nation and our community, Auburn Opelika Habitat for Humanity continues to raise money for families locally. The need for affordable housing continues to be prevalent in this time, and we need your help to obtain the funds required to build homes #70 and 71. Auburn Opelika Habitat and the WeHelp Coalition of Churches normally hold an annual Cookie Walk fundraiser to raise money to build homes for our partner families. Unfortunately, this year we are unable to have the traditional fundraiser due to safety concerns and COVID-19 restrictions. However, a different kind of fundraiser will still take place with safety measures put into effect. On Saturday, December 5th, the WeHelp Coalition of Churches will host a drive-through donation event in the parking lot of Grace United Methodist Church. As you enter the parking lot, you will drive through a line of 69 Habitat homeowners, volunteers, and supporters – each one holding a house that represents the 69 homes that Habitat for Humanity has built in Lee County since its founding. At the end of the line, monetary donations will be collected by volunteers, and in keeping with our Cookie Walk theme, each donor will receive an individually-wrapped cookie. This event will take place from 9 – 11 am. If you have the ability to donate, we ask that you come out to support us and our partner families during this time. Our partner families work very hard to save a down payment, volunteer 500 hours to work on other homes and their own, complete home ownership and financial classes, and make a no-interest mortgage payment which is recycled to help build more homes. All proceeds will go directly to build more homes in our community. As the hardships of the pandemic continue to affect everyone, and the need for affordable housing continues to rise, we thank you for taking the time to help us secure the funds to continue building and improving our community. In the past you have come to the Cookie Walk for what you can get, but this year it is about what you can give! Support housing for families in our community through giving. Donations are tax deductible. Checks can be mailed to 605 2nd Avenue, Opelika, AL 36801 or you may give over the phone by calling 334-745-2123. There is also an option for donors to give online by clicking the “Donate Now” link on this page. Be sure to acknowledge that your online donation is for the Cookie Walk by typing the words “Cookie Walk” in the Optional Message text box. A receipt will be issued to your email. Together we build homes, community, and hope.
Thank you to the WeHelp Coalition of Churches for working with us to create an event where everyone, including donors, can remain socially distant. Click below to view all of the churches that have given there time and efforts to make this possible:
